MAD VERRERIE D’ART OPENS ITS DOORS
Our workshop’s “raison d’être” is to introduce the magic of glass and torch blowing to the wider public, through open door events, demonstrations in shows and artistic events and by showcasing all our creations on our website.
We value our roots and our region, Lorraine, and we collaborate with local artists and providers as often as we can.
MASTER GLASSBLOWER FOR OVER 25 YEARS
FRÉDÉRIC DEMOISSON, MOF 2019
TRAINING AND EDUCATION
1991 to 1993 : Initial training at the CERFAV institute. Halogen lamp development apprenticeship with Philips Lighting France.
1993 to 1997 : CAP (Certification of professional competence) and Brevet de Technicien (Advanced Technician Certificate) in glass Industry, specialisation in torch blowing at the Lycée Dorian and Lucas de Nehou.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
1997 to 2002 : Frédéric is the head of the night vision tube production line and torch blower for a laboratory glassware company. Training with Pascal Guernic at the art of caneworking (glass blowing with a cane).
2002 : Creation of VerreLab, a company specialising in glassware and measuring instruments for laboratories.
2006 to present : VerreLab merges with Techlab. Frédéric is the head of glass blowing activities for the newly created company.
CREATION OF MAD VERRERIE D’ART ARTISTIC EXPERIENCE
2014 : The foundation of Mad Verrerie D’Art; an independent artistic workshop, enabling Frédéric to escape the transparent glass of laboratory glassware and create unique and colourful pieces of glass art.
Frédéric was mentored by Eddie Legus, Meilleur Ouvrier de France 2000. He perfected sculpture techniques as an intern in Eddie’s workshop.
Training in the United States with Karina Guévin and Cédric Ginart, world famous specialist glass blowers.
Participation at the Corning Museum Glass during the GAS salon, one of the largest events in the world for the glass artists community.
2016: President of the Flame’Off association, created to organise and facilitate events and public demonstrations for the glass and torch blower community.
Collaboration with movie director Florian Debu for the creation of “Le Nouveau Souffle” documentary.
2017 et 2018 : On the organisation team for the CERFAV summer camp. Every year, this event gets professional glass blower to share their know-how and passion to students.
2019 : Part-time Glasswork professor at CERFAV.
MEILLEUR OUVRIER DE FRANCE 2019
In 2019, our efforts were bestowed with the prestigious title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France, in the Torch Blowing category.
The MOF title is awarded to the best artists and artisans of their time, by their peers every three to four years. It is not only the highest title a French craftsman can acquire, but also a guarantee of quality and expertise.
